Is It Better to Be or to Do?

Sunday morning at 10am

with Kusula Bhikshu, Buddhist monk 

Buddhist monk, Kusula Bhikshu, shares his journey of wanting to be a Buddhist and how practicing Buddhism has changed life in so many ways. He will share stories and insights from his book “Urban Dharma” published last year.

This is a welcoming space for people of all ages.
Children and youth have the option of staying for the entirety of the service or joining the Sunday WE program upstairs partway through.

January 11–

Justice Sunday

Bagel Buddies – Children and youth will vote on which organization will receive 50% of the collection. (The other 50% will go to the WE Scholarship Fund.) The group will then prepare bagels and supplies to be sold after the service to hungry congregants.

Please plan on staying 30-45 minutes after the service so that children and youth may work on their justice project. Thank you.

On Sunday, January 25, Chalice’s mid-year meeting will be held after the service. If you are planning to attend in person, we will offer a supervised play/hangout space in Room 4. Space is limited! For the safety of our young UUs, and out of respect for those attending the meeting, we ask that children and youth not be left unattended during the meeting. There is also the option of attending the meeting via Zoom if you prefer to take your family home after the service.

This Day in Unitarian Universalist History…

January 12, 1820 – Carolina Seymour Severance, known as Caroline, was born in Canandaigua, New York. She worked all her adult life for social reform and her home was a gathering place for liberal causes. At first she held the conventional view that a woman’s role was as a wife and mother, but she became increasingly involved with women’s rights and stressed women’s ability to shape public policy. When her family moved to Boston, Massachusetts, Severance took part in the city’s reform movements. When her family moved again, this time to Los Angeles, California, they founded the city’s first Unitarian congregation, Unity Church. Severance championed Christian socialism, progressivism, and peace. In 1900, she became president of the Los Angeles County Woman Suffrage League. Carolina Seymour Severance died on November 10, 1914, at age 94. ~ This Day in Unitarian Universalism
