Religious Exploration at Chalice!

A place for wonder. A place for fun.

Welcome, welcome everyone!

Chalice Family Update

February 20, 2025

In February, the theme is the Practice of Inclusion

The Gifts of Inclusion

Sunday morning at 10am

with  Merlin Snider

When I think of inclusion I can’t help but think of its polar opposite—exclusion, and its many costs, spiritually, materially, and culturally. We are so much better off, and deeply enriched, when we welcome diversity into our experience. We’ll take a glimpse at western society’s evolving relationship with otherness, some of our failings and successes, and what it means today to celebrate the full spectrum of humanity’s rainbow.

Families welcome! The Joy Corner is open!

Children will be led by the Lamp of Love to their RE spaces partway through the service.

February 23–

Remember to Love Yourself Too – As Unitarian Universalists, all we do in the wider world is fueled by love. We are really good at loving our fellow humans! We also need to remember to love ourselves too. We can’t take care of one another if we don’t take care of ourselves. Let’s play some games and learn a few affirmations along the way.

Each week we will offer book suggestions for all ages, books that celebrate diverse identities, resist stereotypes, and uplift social justice. Whether you choose to purchase the books, borrow them from a friend, or check them out from your local library, we hope you enjoy these stories featuring characters from a wide range of communities.

*Credit given to RebekahGienapp.com for most suggestions

Ty’s Travels: Lab Magic by Kelly Starling Lyons (ages 5—7)

Love in the Library by Maggie Tokuda-Hall (ages 6—10)

John Murray Forbes - Wikipedia

This day in UU history…

John Murray Forbes was born in Bordeaux, France, on February 23, 1813. His father was a wealthy merchant and John learned the trade. He invested in land, iron, steam and railroads and served as president of the Michigan Central Railroad. After the assassination of Elijah Lovejoy, Murray became an abolitionist and provided equal pay to freed slaves. He supported Abraham Lincoln’s candidacy for president and was counsel to him during the Civil War. Forbes also fought for the rights of Irish immigrants. The Forbes family intermarried several times with the Emersons. John Murray Forbes used his great wealth for civic betterment. He was a member of First Parish (Unitarian) of Milton, Massachusetts, and gave the land for it’s parsonage. John Murray Forbes died on October 12, 1898. ~ This Day in Unitarian Universalist History
