When we believe stories and explanations that dehumanize others, we suffer a failure of imagination. Whether it was during enslavement or the Holocaust or other genocides and atrocities, those who perpetrated these traumas failed to see the beauty and expansiveness of life. Instead, they saw life as a zero sum game in which many had to suffer so that a few could rise. On this Sunday after Inauguration, let us reclaim our imagination to envision a world that works for all.
