David Korten will discuss his latest work, “How to Liberate America from Wall Street Rule,” in which he calls out the root causes and devastating consequences of the economic meltdown, putting education, health care, our social safety net, essential infrastructure, and our environment at great risk. To restore democracy, strengthen local economies, and create prosperity based on real wealth, David proposes the redesign of our economic system and issues a call for increased public awareness and broad-based citizen action.
David C. Korten, PhD worked for more than thirty-five years in preeminent business, academic and international development institutions. He is the author of Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to Real Wealth, The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community, and the international best seller, When Corporations Rule the World, among others. Dr. Korten is co-founder and chair of YES! Magazine, co-chair of the New Economy Working Group, founder and president of the Living Economies Forum (aka People-Centered Development Forum), and board member of the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies.
About Agenda for a New Economy:
Finally a bold Obama-era agenda that soars above the mild reforms that are grabbing daily headlines and actually meets the daunting challenges posed by the Wall Street and planetary crises.” —John Cavanagh, Director of the Institute for Policy Studies and coeditor of Alternatives to Economic Globalization
“This edition of Agenda for a New Economy brings together previously fragmented ideas about how to move forward into a compelling, cohesive framework for personal, community and government action. This book will get you from ‘yes, but how?’ to ‘yes, and here’s how’.” —Alisa Gravitz, Executive Director, Green America
