Taraneh Salke will screen her film “Where Are The Men?” and discuss the vital work she and the Family Health Alliance are doing to promote women’s reproductive health in Afghanistan.

Taraneh Salke holds a Master of Public Health degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology from UCLA. Her focus is on international family planning and reproductive health, and role of gender, particularly in Muslim societies.

Taraneh’s work has taken her to some of the most under-served and under developed communities in the world. Under the protection of its elders, she lived and worked with the Turkushvand tribe, a nomadic tribe living in the mountains of Kurdistan region. While in Iran, studying the country’s family planning programs, she worked with Afghan women refugees. Since 2003, she has worked extensively on advocacy and women’s health issues in Afghanistan.

Taraneh’s short-documentary film, “Where Are The Men?” has won 7 awards/ recognitions to date. It is a film about women’s health and development in Afghanistan and reflects the work she has done there during the past 9 years.
