Christmas Eve Service
Join us for our annual Christmas Eve Service. The choir will sing, the candles will glow, and the story of Christmas will be shared – virtually! Rev. Nica Eaton-Guinn (Chalice UU) and Rev. Julia Hamilton (USSB) are bringing our congregations together for this special evening. Music from the Chalice/USSB combined choir, along with carols to sing along to at home. Don’t forget your candles for Silent Night!
Winter Solstice
Winter Solstice is a celebration of the longest night, a time where embracing our darkness is a springboard to personal growth and change. Come celebrate the beauty of winter solstice through music, words and visuals. Experience the serenity of solstice, a time to reflect and rejuvenate. Together we will walk through a simple exercise of letting go and looking into the future. Please have a piece of paper and pencil with you.
Stillness Speaks
As the darkness of this time of year closes in, and we remain sheltered in our homes, we visit the wisdom of stillness. Normally this time of year is frantic and exhausting. Can we do it differently this year, honoring the still small voice inside that yearns to guide us? Join us to hear stillness speak.
Celebrating the Season – a Family Affair
Today we begin our celebration of the holiday season by honoring the shared threads between the UU tradition of Chalica, the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. This intergenerational service for the whole family will also welcome and celebrate our newest members. Join us for a Sunday of festivity and tradition and maybe even a surprise visit from Santa. Healing Lessons from Nature: Thanksgiving Service
Nature, if we listen and pay attention to it, has abundant lessons in healing. Today, as we give thanks for our earth and harvest in this Thanksgiving service, we will explore the abundant healing gifts of nature. There will be a special collection for Harbor House during the service, as well as a drive-through food collection for Adelante Communidad and surprise after the service.
It Takes Practice – Music Service with Matt Meyers
Today, we join with the Santa Barbara and Ventura congregations to worship with a renowned UU musician, Matt Meyer. Our favorite songs, whoever the artist or whatever the style, were created in a strange alchemy of study and inspiration, of strict practice and of letting go. Spiritual Practice is a similar combination of dedication, muscle memory, and perhaps a little divine inspiration. Join us for a musical exploration of learning to risk, building the muscle memory of courage, and the spiritual practice of relationship when things around us are changing fast.
Matt is a musician and worship leader who has led hundreds of services for UU congregations across the country. He has a degree in hand drumming and serves as Director of Community Life for Sanctuary Boston.
