Sparking Your Creative Spirit

“What you paint, write, sing, dance, cook, sew, compose, construct, draw, or act, can change this moment in life into something magical, meaningful, purposeful, or real. Art can save you.” (Steph Cowling) Creativity is not something to be left to the professionals alone or the few deemed ‘talented’. Creativity is everyone’s birthright. Join us to explore ways for you to spark your creative spirit and enjoy the spiritual and psychological fruits of creative expression.

Isn’t There Enough for Everyone?

With so much abundance in this world, why do so many live with so little?

John the Baptist said: “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”  What do other religions say about abundance? What can we do to alleviate the suffering of the weakest in our community? Join us for this exploration on how we might share the abundant resources of this planet.

Coming of Age

For 7 months now our Coming of Age Youth (8th and 9th graders) have been undertaking a rigorous program of self-examination, faith exploration and growth. This service marks the culmination of that program and invites the youth and their mentors to share what they have learned and how their Unitarian Universalist faith informs them. Please join us in welcoming these inspiring youth to the next step of their faith journey.

Universal Journey

Olympia Brown, who became the first female Universalist minister in 1863, was a staunch advocate of women gaining the vote in 1920.  CVUUF Chalice Players has chosen this dynamic historical figure to be the basis of an original presentation about women who have made a difference in “Universal Journey” during services. Join us for this special Sunday.

From Scarcity to Abundance

“It’s not what we have that constitutes our abundance, but what we appreciate,” writes Jules Petit-Senn. Sometimes our resources feel scarce and it is hard to imagine being able to give to life, because the struggle for survival is paramount. But when we shift our focus to celebrating what we already have, we can discover an abundant existence. Today, as we launch our Capital Campaign, we focus on the many gifts we already share as a community and individuals.

The Sun Will Rise Again

After a long hard night, when it seems like the light may never return and the trials of life appear too great, nature teaches us that the sun will rise again. We embrace this message of Easter and resurrection through our Unitarian Universalist lens by celebrating our Flower communion that reminds us of the beauty of life and rebirth. Join us for this celebration of hope and abundance.

Good Friday Service

1 Service at 8:00pm
March 30 – 8 pm – Good Friday Service – Going Within – Reverend Nica Eaton-Guinn
Good Friday gives us the opportunity to go within and honor the quiet, dark places in our lives. Together we mourn the inevitable suffering in life. This intimate service will take place at CVUUF at night to honor the ending, mysterious time represented by Jesus’ death on the cross, before emerging into rebirth and renewal on Easter Sunday. Join us for a UU exploration of this Christian tradition.

The Courage of Immigrants

March 25 – The Courage of Immigrants – Evan Junker, UU Justice Ministry of California
To journey away from family and a familiar country to a new environment requires courage. Join Evan Junker, Executive Director of the UU Justice Ministry of California as we explore the stories of immigrant families who have come to the US to make a home. Learn how our Unitarian Universalism calls us to act in solidarity and find out how you can make a difference.

Courageous Living

March 18 – Courageous Living – Reverend Nica Eaton-Guinn
Life presents us with many challenges. We need courage in the face of illness, loss, divorce, unemployment, poverty, depression and many other circumstances. For some of us it takes courage just to get up and face another day. Today we will be exploring how to find courage when the path forward is daunting or unclear. Where and how do we find the resources to live courageously?

Our Courageous Youth

Our young people today are faced with a fractious, scary, fast world. It takes tremendous courage to grow up in this time of 24/7 media, non-stop communication and alienation. Join us as some of our High School YRUU group, also known as the Young Religious Unitarian Universalists, share their stories of how and where they find courage to face the difficult task of becoming adults in today’s world.
