Love at the Center: Reflections on General Assembly

In June, our Annual Unitarian Universalist General Assembly took place on line. Our denomination voted to place Love at the Center of how we articulate our faith. Join us to hear about what’s going on at a national level and learn more about current trends in Unitarian Universalism. This is Rev. Nica’s last service before her summer break.

Shining our Light Wherever We Are

July 7th marks our first service in our new temporary Sanctuary in Fellowship Hall. No matter where we are, we, the people, are Chalice. With our world in disarray, it is important we shine our light wherever we are. Join us in person to experience the joy of using our building in a new way. You can experience the service live in our Sanctuary or sit with friends on sofas in our new Lounge or Nest and enjoy the service on screens, partaking in communal rituals all together. And of course, we continue to offer online zoom services. Welcome to our new way of worshipping together.

My Muzungu Eyes Are Improving

This is above all a humour service— told by UU Liz James, with funny stories of lions and cross cultural misunderstandings. It’s also a service about bravery and Unitarianism overseas—telling the story of Rev. Fulgence Ndadigimana’s imprisonment for his work as a UU Minister, how UUs around the world came together to get him released, and the not for profit he founded afterwards. Above all, it’s a story of friendship, and how building relationships with people very different from us enriches us and allows us to make a difference in the world.

GA Service – Weaving Our Lives (online only)

Today, we will be joining together online for our annual General Assembly worship service. Find us on zoom for this denomination wide event called Weaving Our Lives. We are all tangled up together in a great web of life that is woven with beauty and hardship, love and loss, thriving and struggle. How do we tend well to the weaving so that all of us are held in care?

Endings and Beginnings

With every ending comes a new beginning. After 16 years, today marks our last service in our current Sanctuary. We take time to bid adieu while we welcome in our new chapter in Fellowhip Hall. Join us for this poignant last service in person at 3327 Old Conejo Road.

This I Remember

Today, we renew our commitment to each other and our community. We hear inspiring stories from long time members who share tales from their years at Chalice. Join us for these stories of our history, as we prepare for our next chapter. We’ll also be celebrating our newest Chalice members in today’s service!

The Story Goes On…

Today we honor our youth, our Religious Exploration Volunteers and our beloved Director Sam Dickerson. Join us to hear moving stories from youth who’ve grown up in our community, who pass the torch on to our current children as the story goes on.

Is It Binary, Or Not?

Life is complicated, and sometimes confusing. When we try to oversimplify things, we lose the nuances and subtleties that often make the biggest differences. In the Western World, we are taught to think rationally, logically and in a binary fashion. Often, however, the answer to the question, is it this or is it that, is yes. Come and reflect on the value of resting in ambiguity. What might we learn from the Parodoxes of the East?

Anchoring Ourselves in Times of Change

As Unitarian Universalists, we are fortunate to be able to draw from a wide range of sources to guide us on how best to deal with life’s challenges. What does our pluralist approach teach us about anchoring ourselves in times of change and challenge? Join us to explore wisdom about resilience from various traditions that can help us steady during tumultuous times.

Beyond Cookbooks & Flowers: Why Mother’s Day Matters More Than Ever in this Election Year

Every day women in America created Mother’s Day not simply to honor women, but to unify and empower women to make social justice change. Let’s step back in time together to revisit the origins of Mother’s Day to remember how unstoppable we can be when united behind our determination to create a just and loving world. Along the journey, Grenda will share about her experience going to the Women’s March on Washington and offer a call to action and share ways to make our voices matter in this election year. After services, we will gather in fellowship hall for a light meal steeped in suffragette history!
