Chalice Family Update

September 12, 2024

In September, our theme is the Practice of Invitation

Our Sacred Earth:

in Words and Music

Sunday morning at 10am

with Rev. Nica Eaton & Merlin Snider

What comes to mind when you think of sacred spaces? A cathedral, a temple, a burial ground? Native American spirituality teaches us that we are all intimately connected to the natural world and every being around us. Likewise, John Muir, and our transcendentalist forbearers, saw the natural world as sacred and divine. The earth herself is our sacred space. But our Mother Earth is in trouble right now, which means we are in trouble. Yet, “No one will protect what they don’t care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced,” said David Attenborough. Today Rev Nica and Merlin Snider will use music and words to reflect upon our sacred space, Earth.

Families Care – With the new church year, we bring back Families Care! Children will put together care kits for unhoused people, filled with personal care items, snacks, and even notes of encouragement and love. Care kits will be handed out during coffee hour.

If you would like to contribute to the care kits, please see the list of need items below. Items can be placed in the blue baskets in the foyer before the service. Thank you!

Each week we will offer book suggestions for all ages, books that celebrate diverse identities, resist stereotypes, and uplift social justice. Whether you choose to purchase the books, borrow them from a friend, or check them out from your local library, we hope you enjoy these stories featuring characters from a wide range of communities.

Have you signed your family’s photo release?

In an effort to obtain permissions for photography and videography at Chalice and Chalice events, we are reintroducing our media release form. You can find this form through Breeze. We will also have paper copies available at the RE table during the Ingathering celebration on September 8. The Social Media Team is working on updating our photo policy. You can also view Chalice’s Photographer’s Covenant here. If you have questions, you can contact the Social Media Team or Sam Dickerson.

Childcare will be offered for a Chalice Circle being held in person at Chalice the 3rd Sunday of the month, noon to 2pm. How Pets Affect Physical and Mental Health - UGA Today

Sept 22 at 10am –

We Need Each Other: An Animal Blessing

An All-Ages Service

It’s that time for our annual blessing of the animals! People of all ages take this moment to lift up our furry, feathered, and scaly family members, reminding them how grateful we are to have them in our lives.

Please note: Due to space restrictions, we will not be able to have our pets in the Sanctuary this year. You are welcome to bring pictures of your loved ones, or join us virtually so we may see them on camera. Thank you!

How to Draw an Alian UFO for kids - Drawing and coloring

We need kid art!

Music Man Rick has created an amazing story of aliens visiting Chalice. Really! In order to make this story come to life, we would love drawings of aliens from our children. Create as many drawings as you’d like! We will be collecting this art over the next couple of months. Please bring your artwork to Chalice and leave it in Sam’s mailbox (next to the kitchen). Thank you for helping us create magic!

Our mission: Religious Exploration empowers children and youth and supports families with tools to create a world of justice and compassion.
