Unitarian Universalism in the 21st Century

One Service at 10:00am
In this dispensation of the 21st Century, during this time of so much human hate towards others because of difference in skin color, difference in sexual orientation and difference in gender identity, we need Unitarian Universalism more than ever. In this period of human uncertainty and so much growing desire for self-love, in which racism, nationalism and white supremacy etc. are on the rise, we need new thinking for a new millenium. Join Rev. Mark Kiyimba, minister of the UU Church of Kampala, Uganda for his thoughts on Unitarian Universalism in the 21st century.

Attending to our Earth – Thanksgiving Service

Services at 9:15 & 11:00
Our earth is a glorious gift to us. She is designed with perfect resources and systems that help humanity thrive. But what happens when we mistreat her and do not give back to her? What happens when we cease paying attention to the perfection inherent in our seeds and soil, in our water and air? This Sunday we attend to our earth, honoring her for her life-sustaining gifts. Join us for our annual bread ceremony giving gratitude for the abundance of our earth.

Breathing Lessons

Services at 9:15 & 11:00
In this service we will explore the many ways breath is used to enhance our sense of personal aliveness, heal what ails us, and, just perhaps, allow us an opening into a realm of spiritual awareness, inaccessible without it.

The Rhythm of Life

Services are at 9:15 and 11:00am

“We are slowed down sound and light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos…. our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music…” wrote Albert Einstein. The first thing we hear in life is our mother’s heartbeat, and we join hers with our own. Our hearts beat a foundational rhythm in our lives. From birth to death, we are making and surrounded by sound, rhythm and music. Join us for an experiential journey as we pay attention to the role of rhythm, sound and music in our lives.

Where we Pay Attention matters…. Squirrel!

Services are at 9:15 and 11:00am

There are so many competing demands on our time and attention these days and so many distractions. But where we pay attention matters. It shapes our lives and who we become. As we enter this new month focused on the theme of Attention, join us to explore the importance of where you pay attention … Squirrel!

Belonging to our Ancestors

Services are at 9:15 and 11:00am

During this time celebrating the religious festivals of All Souls, Dia de los Muertos, Diwali and Samhain, this Sunday we honor our ancestors. You are invited to bring photographs or other mementos of deceased loved ones for our communal altar, so that we may collectively pay tribute to our ancestors. We will explore the sense of belonging to our ancestors, both within this community and within our own lives, and discover how that informs our lives today. Join us for this special service of remembrance.

Stories of courage from Chalice to the UU/UNO

Services at 9:15 & 11:00

The Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office (UU/UNO) is engaged in international advocacy work at the UN based on Unitarian Universalist (UU) values. At Chalice our history holds stories of courage. Brenee Brown writes: “Every time we are brave with our lives, we make the people around us a little braver and our organizations bolder and stronger.” Hear stories that connect us to courage at home and around the world.

Who Belongs in America?

Services at 9:15 & 11:00a
On what is traditionally celebrated as Columbus Day weekend, we celebrate Indigenous People’s Day and look at who truly belongs in America. We are thrilled that a Chumash and Tatavian Elder, Alan Salazar, will be joining us for this service to tell the ancient story of his people on this land. Salazar is a traditional storyteller and canoe paddler and will share tales of his life and ancestors with our children and adults. Join us for this special treat. We also urge you to attend Chalice’s theatrical production of ‘Voices of a People’s History of the United States’ happening this weekend.

Longing for Belonging

Services at 9:15 & 11:00a
Aren’t we all longing for belonging in some way, to find our tribe, our people, the place where we can feel at home? For some of us, we find a profound sense of belonging in our families. For others, we find it in our communities, among our friends, in our nation or out in nature. Where do you belong? Where do you feel most at home? What is your spiritual lesson about belonging?
