March 18 – Courageous Living – Reverend Nica Eaton-Guinn
Life presents us with many challenges. We need courage in the face of illness, loss, divorce, unemployment, poverty, depression and many other circumstances. For some of us it takes courage just to get up and face another day. Today we will be exploring how to find courage when the path forward is daunting or unclear. Where and how do we find the resources to live courageously?
Our young people today are faced with a fractious, scary, fast world. It takes tremendous courage to grow up in this time of 24/7 media, non-stop communication and alienation. Join us as some of our High School YRUU group, also known as the Young Religious Unitarian Universalists, share their stories of how and where they find courage to face the difficult task of becoming adults in today’s world.
Our mission says we are ‘spiritually courageous people’. But what does it actually mean to be spiritually courageous? This week we explore how to delve deeply into theology, ask ourselves hard questions, and perhaps find some courageous answers. We may even dare to explore the multi-faceted, powerful word ‘G*d’! Join us to find out!

This service celebrates the importance of resilience, determination, and perseverance throughout life, especially for women and marginalized populations. Inspired by the Maya Angelou poem “Still I Rise” we are called to rise again and again in the face of hardship and struggle. Come be inspired in this service, so you too may continue to rise up in the face of difficult life circumstances.
Martin Luther King Jr. taught us again and again that we cannot fight hate with hate. We must persevere with an attitude of love, and non-violence, even when it’s difficult. Love is our true essence. Love is our highest call as humans. Love is the healing balm that calms discord, counters hate and brings us back to wholeness. Join us to find ways of persevering with love.
We celebrate the 450th anniversary of the founding of Unitarianism in Europe through the Edict of Torda in Transylvania. Unitarianism has persevered through centuries of persecution by Catholicism and then communism in what is now Hungary and Romania. We honor our history as a radical faith 450 years ago, a faith that is still on the leading edge of social change, inclusivity and religious freedom today.
Throughout January we are exploring the theme of INTENTION from different perspectives. We will begin by examining the power of intention on a global scale. While much of society sees weapons as a solution instead of a problem, our world community calls us towards intentionally building a peaceful, sustainable future for all life on our planet. During this month we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and explore the Promise and Practice of our Faith and how we as a community can learn about and actively support the Black Lives of UU Movement. As the month continues, and we reflect on what we wish to create at CVUUF, we will discover the power of setting a collective intention as a community. We end the month with a tribute to our children, and how raising our next generation with intention can create the world we long for. Join us for an inspiring month focused on how being intentional in our lives can transform our world.
