Welcome to a World Without a Job

This Labor Day we celebrate the workers of our country. That used to be me. I was a teacher here in The Conejo Valley School District. I retired just before COVID. I enjoyed being a teacher. I had great people to work with, including my administrators. I was also very involved with my union. Unions have done a lot for the workers of the world. Today we will look how unions have helped workers be listened to and not abused and how Chalice has taken the place of my union now that I am retired.

Pilgrimage to Wholeness

Rev. Nica intended her Sabbatical to be a “Pilgrimage to Wholeness”. But being whole inevitably requires a journey through brokenness and disintegration to understand more fully what wholeness means. Experiencing cancelled plans, broken feet and her marriage completing, she explores whether wholeness is even a destination we can aspire to. Join Rev. Nica as she shares insights into what becoming a whole human being involves. Please bring your backpacks or work bags, for a special blessing of the backpacks during our Time for All Ages.

Pajamas & Pets – the Animal Blessing

What’s better than curling up with your animals on a Sunday morning in your pajamas? Today we celebrate and bless the animals in our lives, while wearing pajamas to Chalice if you wish. You may bring your pets to Chalice if they’re able to be in public spaces safely, or show them to us on screen. Please send us a photo of any beloved animals who have passed, whom you wish to memorialize. Send pictures to admin@chaliceuu.org. We look forward to celebrating the difference animals make in our lives, while we cosy up with one another.

The Magic of Camp

Join us for a fun-filled service reminding us of the joys of camp and all the ways that it can renew our spirits, create community, ground us and give us the chance to play. After service we’ll be social, engage in various camp-themed activities and snacks and learn more about our cluster camp at DeBenneville Pines. Bring a camp chair and sack lunch.

The Secret to a Long Life

How To Be A Good Ancestor

It may seem odd to think of yourself as an ancestor when you are still alive—until you stop to think that all of our ancestors were once the same as us—children of Mother Earth, raised with the values and expectations of their village and their ancestors. How do we honor them while acknowledging their missteps? Is there ancient wisdom that we have neglected? One thing is certain. We are planting (or cutting down) trees whose fruit we may never taste. Yet being part of the whole web of existence, how we respond will ripple like stones in the water, now and on and on and on.

Tango Lessons

What can the beautiful dance of Argentine Tango teach us about life? Rev. Nica began her sabbatical in Buenos Aires, Argentina to study tango. Today she shares the spiritual and life lessons she learned from dancing tango. You might be surprised by what this dance can teach us all about connection, delight, community, and the journey within.
